The Coincidence of Callie and Kayden by Jessica Sorensen Review

Title: The Coincidence of Callie and Kayden

Book rating: 5 stars!!
Cover rating: 5 stars
There are those who don’t get luck handed to them on a shiny platter, who end up in the wrong place at the wrong time, who don’t get saved.
Luck was not on Callie’s side the day of her twelfth birthday when everything was stolen from her. After it’s all over, she locks up her feelings and vows never to tell anyone what happened. Six years later her painful past consumes her life and most days it’s a struggle just to breathe.
For as long as Kayden can remember, suffering in silence was the only way to survive life. As long as he did what he was told, everything was okay. One night, after making a terrible mistake, it seems like his life might be over. Luck was on his side, though, when Callie coincidentally is in the right place at the right time and saves him.
Now he can’t stop thinking about the girl he saw at school, but never really knew. When he ends up at the same college as Callie, he does everything he can to try to get to know her. But Callie is reserved and closed off. The more he tries to be part of her life, the more he realizes Callie might need to be saved.

I'm not sure I can actually put how I feel about this book into words and do it any justice, that's how good it was for me. The Coincidence of Callie and Kayden really touched my heart, it was such a tragic but beautiful story and I wish I could reread it for the first time just to experience it for the first time all over again. The story starts off with a bit of history on Callie and Kayden and where they really first collided. Soon after they have this encounter they go their separate ways and don't meet up again until college and that's were their story really starts. The pacing was really well done and the characters were well developed. Their stories as single people were very tragic and heart breaking, I wanted nothing more than to be able to let them know they could over come their pasts and come out as better people. Together their story was hopeful and exciting.

Callie was an awesome girl, when I read books with characters that have troubled pasts I always have this over bearing want to help them some how. Obviously I can't because they're fictional characters but you know in every fictional character there's a little bit of everyone. The things that this girl has been through are disturbing, tragic, and really messed up. If you don't handle 'troubled pasts' very well then I don't recommend you read this one. Anyways, Callie was such a strong girl. I'm not sure how exactly she held all of it in and kept it together for so long because I don't think I could have. Her relationship with Seth, her best friend, was so PERFECT. Seth wasn't one of the focused characters in this book but his character does deserve plenty of praise. He was like the protective big brother Callie needed. He was there for her to listen and talk but he knew how to push her and make her open up without pushing too much. I truly appreciated his role in this story.

Kayden was SO perfectly flawed. He also had a rough past and hid it from people fairly well. He didn't deserve everything he went through and I wanted to punch the person causing his pain SO many times. Luke, his best friend, was such a perfect best friend for Kayden. He knew how to make him laugh and have fun while always having his back. He was accepting of Callie right away and he even helped Kayden realize what a mega bitch (yup that's a Drop Dead Fred reference) Daisy was. I loved him as much as I loved Seth. Kayden was so sweet and caring towards Callie the entire time and I really liked that because he had a troubled past he could relate to Callie and be there for her in ways others couldn't. I liked how protective of her he was without being possessive. He knew how to make her laugh and have fun, he knew how to be there for her and make her feel safe, and he knew when to back off or let it be. They were so perfect together, the chemistry and tension was very well written.

The ending of this freaking book is driving me insane. Yet again I have read a book with a huge punch you in the face, make you sob, make you mumble inaudible things because you're so shocked, rip your heart out of your chest and throw it down the garbage disposal cliff hanger ending. This ending had to be the worst of them all, it just made me sob. Literally sat there sobbing and got stares from my mom and sister. They just didn't understand. I highly recommend this book to those who like contemporary romance novels and anyone else. This book just deserves to be read by everyone so you all can feel the feels that I felt. Catch my drift? Let me clarify. Go buy this book right now.

"That's you. Callie, you're the only person that's ever made me fell happy about anything. That night you save me, you changed something in me--you made me want to live." I tell her the truth, knowing that when morning comes around, it's all going to catch up with me.

"In this existence of our lives, there is a single coincidence that brings us together and for a moment, our hearts beat as one."

"It's amazing how the things you remember forever are the things you'd rather forget and the things you desperately want to grasp onto seem to slip away like sand in the wind."

"There is something about someone trusting you enough with their secrets that makes it easier to trust them. It's like they're opening their heart and in return yours should open up to them, too."
